About the treatment

LightSheer is a diode laser hair removal system designed to provide long-term reduction of unwanted hair. Its technology can precisely treat different areas of the face and body, with settings adapted to the person’s skin type and hair characteristics.

LightSheer diode laser technology targets melanin within the hair to provide permanent hair reduction, the standard term used for laser hair-removal devices.

How the laser works

The laser emits concentrated light that is absorbed by melanin, the pigment found within the hair. This energy is converted into heat inside the follicle, disrupting its ability to produce new hair.

The treatment is most effective on pigmented hairs that are in an active stage of growth. Because not all hairs enter this stage at the same time, appointments must be distributed over several months.

Comfort and skin protection

The LightSheer handpiece uses contact cooling to cool the skin’s surface before and during the delivery of laser energy. This helps protect the epidermis and improve comfort during treatment.

The sensation experienced varies according to the treatment area, hair density, and individual sensitivity.

Number of treatments

A program generally includes multiple sessions. Approximately eight to ten treatments may be recommended, although the exact number varies according to:

• The treatment area
• The colour, thickness, and density of the hair
• Skin type and colour
• The hair’s growth cycle
• Individual response to treatment
• Certain hormonal or medical factors

Each session can effectively target only hairs that are in an appropriate growth stage. Following the recommended appointment schedule therefore plays an important role in the results.

Results

A reduction in regrowth may be noticeable after the first few sessions. As the program progresses, the hair generally grows back more sparsely, more finely, and more slowly.

Laser hair removal is intended to provide permanent hair reduction rather than guarantee the disappearance of every hair. Results vary from person to person, and occasional maintenance sessions may be needed.

Very light, white, grey, or red hairs contain little melanin and may respond less effectively to laser treatment. Electrolysis may then be considered for certain remaining hairs.

A preliminary consultation is required to evaluate your skin, hair, health, and any medications you take. It also allows your technician to determine whether the treatment is appropriate, develop a personalized program, and explain the precautions to follow before and after each session.
